The activity coefficients of sodium chloride were measured in NaCl-MgSO4-H2O solutions over the temperature range from 5 to 45-degrees-C and at ionic strengths from 0.4 to 7. Three versions of Pitzer's method of describing the properties of asymmetric mixed electrolyte solutions were tested. The experimental results can be described the best when parameter theta(MN) is described by the equation: theta(MN) = theta(MN)0 + theta(MN)(1) [1 - (1 + 21(1/2)) exp (-21(1/2))]/21, while beta(2)Mg,SO4 has a value of -22.34 at 25-degrees-C.
