RE1844-74 - A NEW AM HER STAR FROM THE ROSAT WIDE-FIELD CAMERA SURVEY

摘要
The ROSAT Wide Field Camera EUV source RE1844 - 74 has been identified with a approximately 16th-mag cataclysmic variable. Optical photometry shows that the system varies with an amplitude of more than 1 mag about the mean. The light curve is complex and shows substantial variations from one orbital cycle to the next. Optical spectroscopy confirms the 90-min orbital period suggested by the photometry, and shows large-amplitude (approximately 500 km s-1) radial velocity variations. The strength and shape of the line profiles vary systematically with orbital phase. The above evidence suggests that RE1844 - 74 belongs to the AM Her subclass of cataclysmic variables.
