摘要
Guanine nucleotides form an extremely stable hydrogen-bonded structure composed of four bases, known as the guanine quartet. Guanine-rich sequences, in particular telomeric DNAs, can readily form these structures. New X-ray and NMR studies highlight the progress in understanding these structures. The role of monovalent ions in polymorphism and the unusual kinetic and thermodynamic stability of guanine-quartet structures is examined.
