EHRLICHIAL DISEASES OF DOGS - DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

Ehrlichial diseases are one of the commonly diagnosed tick-transmitted diseases seen in dogs. Ehrlichia canis, Ehrlichia platys, Ehrlichia equi, and Ehrlichia risticii are known to cause clinical and/or subclinical infections in dogs. The most common of these, causing clinical illness, is E. canis, which also causes the most severe infections. This article discusses the clinical presentations, laboratory findings, therapy and response to therapy, prevention, and public health considerations.
