Ultrasonic measurements are performed for the first time in the Y124 superconductor. Both longitudinal and transverse modes are employed and the temperature region covered is from 30K to 330K. A pronounced attenuation peak and accompanying changes in sound velocity are found at about 260K. For the temperature between 200K and 60K, a thermal hysteresis in velocity develops with no simultaneous anomalies observed in attenuation. A mechanism responsible for the anomalies at around 260K is proposed.
