摘要
Here, Swedish men's relations to the new ideal and image of the caring and present father are explored. It is argued that the dominant image of contemporary masculinity and fatherhood is changing. During recent decades, debates and political ambitions concerning fatherhood have led to the construction of new ideals. In Sweden, reforms and information strategies are used to enhance and create the new father. The article focuses on men sharing the responsibility for their small children, and taking at least six months of parental leave. Through in-depth interviews and four case studies, these men's construction of fatherhood is studied. The results reveal some drastic changes towards equality and shared parenting in this group of fathers. The explanation is sought in a combination of class, status position, profession, and attitudes towards life and career.
