摘要
A series of ice wedges along the Porcupine River (Yukon) has been sampled to identify their periods of growth and the source of infiltrating water. Radiocarbon dates of enclosing sediments constrain the periods of growth to younger than 4000 sp. Stable isotopes show a homogeneity between ice wedge centres and exteriors, indicating climatic stability over this time. The delta(18)O/delta(2)H signatures are enriched above winter precipitation and plot below the meteoric water line, indicating that ice wedges are filled during the later stages of snow melt.
