摘要
Dislocation glide during the plastic deformation of crystalline materials creates a heterogeneous microstructure that often consists of misoriented cells or subgrains. It is pointed out that there has recently been a significant improvement in the understanding of plastic flow in heterogeneous materials, and of dislocation mechanisms that produce cells, which can be combined to clarify models of deformation. Dislocation models of how plastic flow creates the microstructure in fcc materials, of how the microstructure determines the pattern of plastic flow, and of how the microstructure can be rearranged by dislocation glide are discussed and reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the role played by cross-slip in creating microstructures and in causing dynamic recovery.
