The aim of this paper is to justify the relevance of the focus group in a research focused on the recognition and promotion of innovative practices and educommunicative strategies that favor the mediatic competence of citizens in emerging digital media. The main objective is to develop a theoretical approach on mobile devices and communication in families, the justification of the application of a focus group as a technique and its design. That is, based on a qualitative methodology and, based on the technique of focus groups, the aim is to explore the family's perception of the knowledge, use and repercussions of mobile devices in family communication, making the members aware of each family system of its influence. The script is structured around seven categories: identification, communication-relationships, routines-habits, regulation-regulation of use, autonomy Vs dependence and authority, privacy and values, and pedagogical-civic use. With this technique, each participant is encouraged to express their perceptions, comment on their experience and family interaction through these devices, establishing a personal approach with the families under study. Results of this work shows the validated design of the script of a focus group aimed at Spanish families.
