The genetic differentiation of strains within Paramecium triaurelia was studied by intra- and inter-strain crosses of the Spanish strains from Castile and Andalusia and the standard one ( strain 324 from Florida, USA). The clones of both generations. F-1 obtained by conjugation and F-2 by autogamy, in intra- and inter-strain crosses showed a high survival rate. It was found that strains coming from remote regions were not genetical ly differentiated wi thin P. triaurelia, which confirms the moderate inbreeding type of the breeding system of the studied species.
