Occurrence of traumatic reticular pericarditis in slaughtered cattle, in the Araguari region-MG

Traumatic reticular pericarditis is a cardiothoracic lesion that affects cattle and pointed objects are the etiological agents that reach the reticule and the heart triggering cardiac insufficiency and toxemia It is very important economically because of the loss in production leading to the death of the animal. The clinical signs in these animals are apathy, anorexia, ingurgitation and jugular pulse and dampening of the cardiac beats. In the present study 18877 slaughtered cattle were monitored in the Mataboi Slaughterhouse, in Araguari-MG, in the Mineiro Triangle region, and the presence of traumatic reticule pericarditis was analyzed during the post mortem examination. Sixty-two cases (0.33%) cases of pericarditis were observed, where 46 (74%) presented perforation of the pericardiac bag, with the presence of fibrinous exsudate, and also presented adherences in the corresponding silky reticule. Pointed metal-type foreign bodies were found in sixteen animals (34%), ten wires (62.5%) and six nails (37.5%).
