XPS CHARACTERIZATION OF SUPPORTED BIMETALLIC PALLADIUM SILVER CLUSTERS

摘要
The formation of bimetallic clusters by sequential metal vapour deposition of Pd and Ag onto a carbon substrate has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The measured shifts of the metal 3d electron binding energy relative to the bulk value consist of the shifts due to the alloy formation and the shifts characteristic of small metal clusters. The cluster shifts are the same for both metal components and are thus consistent with the concept of Coulombic interaction between the emitted photoelectron and the positive charge left on the cluster in the photoemission final state. © 1990.
