摘要：

The present article has as objective to analyze the Jose Enrique Rodo's work, Ariel, as a criticism to the utilitarist spirit - specially of North American inspiration - effective in the turn of the XIX for the XX century, in Latin America. The article also highlights the noble intention of the work, which had the formation of Latin American youth an its main intention.
