Landscape and painting: a journey through the Mexican Alameda

The Alameda is the oldest public garden in Mexico City. Since its creation, the park has been favored by landscape painters. During its five centuries of existence, it has been the source of inspiration for many paintings that allow us an insight into different periods of the Alameda and Mexico City. This thesis will first discuss the relation between landscape and painting. Later, it will analyze certain paintings of the Alameda. Finally, it will show that the popularity of the Alameda has caused the park to become an invisible landscape.
