DIGITAL HERITAGE: CONSERVATION APPROACHES IN RELATIONSHIP OF ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE AND DIGITAL ASSETS

The purpose of this article is to reveal the need for new perception of conservation regarding the digital technologies and their products in order to incorporate the potentials and future possibilities for heritage, and to open up the concept of digital heritage in the preservation of architectural heritage and to discuss methods of preserving digital heritage as a heritage object. In this study; definition of digital heritage, preservation of digital objects and digital heritage objects are reconsidered in terms of definitions and methods in accordance with the holistic and multidisciplinary nature of the heritage. Basic findings have shown although carrying new and powerful possibilities, that digital heritage conservation requires a different approach due to the unique conservation problems it has. It is evident that this approach is necessary to ensure that contemporary protection methods which contains digital methods increasingly and that they should to be reused in future conservation projects. By adopting these approaches for heritage conservation purposes, it will be possible to effectively use, safeguard and improve in future studies the digital heritage projects that has to be regarded as digital heritage at the same time.
