摘要
Traditional theoretical models, which ignore the influence of admixture ions, have given rise to an erroneous concept concerning the presence of the limiting value (Delta epsilon(max)) of the contribution of the dispersed phase Delta epsilon to the permittivity of a suspension of nonconducting particles. As a result, a dramatic discrepancy evolves between theory and experiment, where extremely high (exceeding Delta epsilon(max)) Delta epsilon values are recorded. It is shown that extremely high Delta epsilon values may result from the adsorption oscillation of common and admixture counterions of the quasi-equilibrium part of the electrical double layer. A low (albeit nonzero) concentration of an admixture (for example, H+ or OH- ions) does not prevent Delta epsilon from achieving extremely high values. The results of this work demonstrate that the extension of current theoretical models to the case of multiion (nonbinary) dispersion media is one of the most urgent and important problems in the theory of low-frequency polarization of the double layer.
