MECHANICAL IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENTS AROUND THE VIOLONCELLO

Some technical aspects of mechanical impedance measurements (both magnitude and phase) on the violoncello and its surroundings are discussed. Examples of measurements show differences of bridge feet impedances, the significance of firm coupling between impedance measuring head and object, the effect of cavity air resonances on the plate impedance, the influence of a mute, the vibrational behaviour of bow sticks, the frequency dependence of the player's finger impedance and string damping by a finger tip.
