Characterization of lignins by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT)

摘要
This work compares three types of lignin: softwood commercial kraft lignin, and softwood and hardwood lignins prepared by steam explosion pretreatment. The FTIR spectra obtained from these lignins were compared with spectra derived using the diffuse reflectance method (Drift) with three different types of sample preparation. DRIFT spectra from direct deposit of a thin layer of lignin on the surface of a KBr matrix gave increased resolution in the range between 4600 and 1600 cm(-1). This study identified new vibration bands originated from guaiacyl and/or syringyl units. The intensities of combination bands and partial derivative(2) vibration bands of water linked to these species together with the FTIR vibration band due to overlapping of C=O groups and partial derivative(2) of water around 1650 to 1720 cm(-1) indicated the degree of hydration of these lignins as well as the occurance of C=O groups.
