Nutritional status of hospitalized elderly patients user nasogastric tube in Security Hospital, Peru

Introduction: The nutritional status in elderly patients is poorly evaluated a clinical condition despite having observed a significant change from admission to discharge. Objective: To determine the variation of the nutritional status of adult patients hospitalized more user nasogastric tube is a Health Hospital. Material and Methods: longitudinal observational descriptive study; population consisted of carriers of SNG services Neurology, Geriatrics and Emergency hospital EsSalud elderly patients. Evaluation was conducted in two moments of the sample and the completion of the questionnaire Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) and also biochemical making the admission and discharge data. Results: Malnutrition at admission 44.3% and 77.8% at discharge was found, with change of MNA score of 3.34 points and also averages variation in blood hemoglobin, albumin, triglycerides and cholesterol were 0.34 mg / dl, 0.34 mg / dl, 1.35 mg / dl and 8.96 mg / dl respectively. Decrease was found in anthropometric values, taking greater account in BMI, ranging from 1.3 kg / m2. Conclusions: A significant variation in the nutritional status of elderly hospitalized was found. The more variable anthropometric parameter of MNA was BMI and MUAC. Users of nasogastric patients had a large percentage of hypoalbuminemia and cholesterol wide variation in the use of SNG.
