摘要
The toughening of ceramic is achieved on the basis of the incorporation of a second phase. The ordinary second phase enhances fracture toughness by crack deflection effects and microcracking mechanisms. Tetragonal ZrO//2 effectively shields crack propagation. This communication describes the synthesis of SiC-ZrO//2 composite containing t-ZrO//2. Cracks were not observed at the interface of ZrO//2 particles and SiC matrix, even around the large particles.
