ENERGY-TRANSFER IN CLASSICAL, COLLINEAR ATOM DIATOM COLLISIONS

Values of average energy transferred, <Δε>, and average energy loss, <Δε>d, per collision were calculated from classical trajectories for collinear A2 + M collisions in which A2 is highly vibrationally excited. Results were compared with those from the single-encounter impulsive collision model, from three-dimensional trajectories for atom-polyatom collisions and from experiments which studied collisions of polyatoms with atoms and with other polyatoms. A number of similarities were noted, in particular, wide ranges of temperature T wherein <Δε> and <Δε>d vary slowly with T. © 1990.
