The analysis in cylindrical coordinates of the coalescence of single drops on sloping plates shows that the coalescence time is independent of the relative velocity between the drop and the film flowing along the plate, the inclination of the drop to the flowing film and the rotation of the drop in the direction of motion. In all cases a form of the Reynolds equation corresponding to the approach of a disc to a horizontal surface is obtained. For comparative purposes the analysis is carried out in a two-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. The results indicate that the coalescence time is once again independent of the velocity of the drop relative to the flowing film.
