Linear and mass attenuation coefficients of 123 keV gamma radiation from Co-57 by dilute solutions of FeSO4 . 7H(2)O salt are studied for varing concentrations. The mixture rule for theoretical calculation of attenuation coefficients is developed for solutions. Our study explores the validity of the expected exponential attenuation absorption law for gamma radiation in solutions and also provides alternative method for direct determination of linear and mass attenuation coefficients of soluble salts in solid form without obtaining them in pure crystalline form.
