This work addresses the basic temporal concepts involved in FMS scheduling activities such as temporal factors and knowledge forms. Attention is also given to the major components of temporal frameworks: time representation schemes, constraint propagation formalisms, and consistency maintenance modules, as well as representation requirements. Major approaches to these issues are reviewed and discussed.
