DEFECT FORMATION STIMULATED BY EXCITON SELF-TRAPPING INTO QUASI-MOLECULAR STATES IN XE CRYOCRYSTALS

Excimer radiation of crystalline Xe excited by subthreshold energy electrons is studied in detail. A structure distortion-induced component is identified. The measurements of dose dependences provide support for the existence of low-temperature mechanisms of defect formation stimulated by electron subsystem excitation. The stable defects are shown to be formed both at the stage of self-trapping into quasi-molecular states and after their radiation decay.
