摘要
The high-performance carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composites are promising replacements for many conventional materials used in aerospace structures. The effect of hole-notch on the mechanical properties of composites is deleterious and thus vital to the study. The carbon-epoxy composite laminates were produced by stacking and soaking carbon fabric layers with epoxy resin and curing them in a hot press. To determine the effect of hole-notch, composite specimens with and without hole-notch were tested under tensile and compressive loads. Fracture surfaces obtained after tests were examined by a scanning electron microscope. Significant features were observed in the resin, fiber, and especially on their interface, which revealed the possible failure mechanisms of holenotched composites under tensile and compressive loading.
