DRAINAGE IN THIN PLANAR NON-NEWTONIAN FLUID FILMS

True linear drainage does not usually occur in practice but it offers a good approximation to more complicated flows such as occur for example in asymmetrical drainage. Two-dimensional models of close-packed liquid/liquid dispersions enable their behaviour to be studied experimentally and the drainage of the films in such a model approximates to one dimensional flow. In this paper equations for film thinning are presented for the radial drainage of uniform horizontal inelastic power law and Bingham plastic fluid films. The analysis is extended to include the linear drainage of inclined non-Newtonian films.
