The paper is about Jeremy Bentham's little known theory of non fictions. The theory by itself bears a remarkable resemblance with Russell's theory of incomplete symbols and seems to advance some pivotal claims that analytical philosophy will later develop. An extensive part of the paper is devoted to examine the connections with Locke's epistemology and it is belived that perhaps some light is shed in the connection the theory of non fictions actually maintains with the semantics related with principle of utility.
