MEDIUM EFFECTS IN QUASI-ELASTIC ELECTRON-SCATTERING

The modifications of electromagnetic nucleon form factors, due to the finite density of the surrounding baryon medium are systematically investigated by means of inclusive quasi-elastic electron scattering processes at low and intermediate momentum transfers. To this end form factors from the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model are used and their importance relative to nuclear structure effects in the longitudinal response is discussed. It appears that for 12C and 40Ca medium effects corresponding to half nuclear matter density seem to be likely, however, for clear conclusions more experimental data at |q| > 550 Mersol|MeV/c are required. Predictions for the longitudinal responses for |q| = 750 solMeV/c are presented. The transverse response does not appear to be particularly suited for the investigation of nuclear medium modifications. © 1990.
