SELECTIVE SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SOME CEPHALOSPORINS IN PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS

摘要：
A spectrophotometric method for the determination of some cephalosporins is described. The method is based on the hydrolysis of the cephalosporins in sodium hydroxide solution to produce hydrogen sulphide and conversion of the sulphide formed to ethylene blue. The method is selective for cephalesporins, as penicillins do not form hydrogen sulphide under these conditions. Cephalosporins were determined in presence of high concentration of penicillins, the detection limit being 0.5 - 15 ug per g of penicillin. The method has been successfully applied to the analysis of some pharmaceutically formulations and the results have been statistically compared with those obtained by the official methods and the imidazole and mercury(II) method.
