摘要
Of this study to determine whether oceanic basalts commonly erupt in a sulfide-saturated state, to present data that bear on controls of sulfide solubility and on sulfide liquid-silicate liquid-gas equilibria in lavas erupted in the deep ocean, to examine the effects of fractional crystallization in terms of sulfides, and to characterize chemically magmatic sulfides in these rocks. Petrographic and microprobe data are presented for a suite of basalt glasses collected in greater than 1000-m water depth. The suite includes dredge and core samples collected from 16 localities on the Juan de Fuca Ridge and nearby Pacific Plate, 12 localities elsewhere in the Pacific basin, and one locality near Iceland.
