摘要：

It shows the steel reinforcing bars comparative analysis's results, according to the Colombian Technical Standard NTC 2289's requirements, for five different brands used in the construction industry of Boyaci. Initially, the steel bars characterization was carried out by tests to determine their chemical composition and physical and mechanical properties. The reinforcing steel bars fracture's characteristics were observed by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, samples were analyzed by an optical microscope with spectroscopy techniques to monitor and establish the sample base metal's characteristics. The results indicate that the quality of the reinforcing steel bars sold in Boyacd meet in a high percentage with the requirements for earthquake resistant construction; however, it is necessary to exert a quality control by the builders.
