摘要
The age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease, which becomes more and more important in our aging society, accompanied by an increasing relevance in occupational medicine. It causes a progressive loss of vision due to retinal changes. In the Western world, the AMD is the leading reason for acquired blindness, ahead of the diabetic retinopathy and the glaucoma. These days the AMD is a global medical problem with, as well for the individual, as for the society, disastrous consequences with rising prevalence and no effective medical cure. This article provides a review of the current knowledge about the age-related macular degeneration.
