INFLUENCE OF PHOTON-ASSISTED ENERGY-TRANSFER ON THE NONLINEAR REFRACTIVE-INDEX OF GDALO3-CR-3+

摘要
We have measured the nonlinear refractive index of a GdAlO3:Cr3+ sample as a function of light intensity and wavelength by means of the nearly degenerate two-wave mixing technique and excited-state absorption spectroscopy. It is shown that the main contribution to the nonlinear index is due to a charge-transfer transition around 45 500 cm-1. The imaginary part of n2 is intensity dependent and this peculiar behavior was ascribed to a photon-assisted off-resonance energy transfer between Cr3+ pairs.
