Electromotive force measurements were carried out on the NaCl-NaNO3-NaOAc-H2O and KCl-KNO3-KOAc-H2O systems at constant total ionic strengths of 0.5,1.0,2.0, and 3.0 mol/kg and at 25-degrees-C using a cell consisting of a sodium ion-selective electrode or potassium ion-selective electrode and an Ag/AgCl electrode. The results were analyzed in terms of the Harned equation and by the Pitzer formalism.
