Spiritual Journey from Childhood to Adolescence: Pathways to Strength and Healing

The research literature has pointed to spirituality as an inherent strength that can lead to positive developmental trajectories in children and adolescents. As such, an understanding of the process and context of spiritual development across the lifespan is important. The current conceptual article explores the literature with the aim of obtaining a holistic understanding of spiritual development from childhood to adolescence. How spiritual development from childhood to adolescence has been understood and studied, from stage models of spiritual development to an understanding of spirituality as an inherent component of all humans is addressed. The current article also explores cultural considerations and provides implications for social work practice and research.
