摘要
The surface tensions of pure water, sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions at the air/water interface under an applied electric field were measured through propagating capillary waves. We found that the wavelengths of capillary waves always decrease with increasing applied electric field. However, the changes in surface tension of all solutions studied, for fields up to 10 kV cm-1, are found to be insignificant and can not be detected within the experimental sensitivity (about 0.1 dyn cm-1).
