This paper describes a device designed to perform static and fatigue tests in a multiaxial stress state. The various advantages of flexure-torsion tests on parallelepipedic bars are discussed and the method of obtaining a given state of stress is analysed. An example concerned with a unidirectional glass fibre-reinforced epoxy shows the capabilities of the device in determining static failure criteria, iso-number of cycles to failure curves in fatigue and predictive models for the fatigue life in a complex state of stress.
