Gender stereotypes, physical activity and school: The perspective of the students

摘要
This article gathers part of the results of an ampler investigation related to the study of the gender stereotypes regarding physical activity and sport in the teaching institutions. In the work, a qualitative analysis is being used to identify the representation that students of primary and secondary education have with two big dimensions: the perception of stereotypes and the manifestation of those stereotypes at school. The investigation technique used was the group discussion. Between the obtained results we emphasize: the representation of certain physical-sport activities are still being specific to a certain gender. The perception that boys make more physical exercise, basically for competitive reasons, the perception of inequalities in classes of physical education, in relation to the content of the program that is being taught; and stronger manifestation of the stereotypes in rural regions than in urban areas.
