DC MOTORS

The application of small motors in control and instrumentation has been considerably extended by the fruits of research and development in motor technology and drive electronics. The progress in the development of dc motors has been such that they are now a viable alternative for cost-conscious applications and those where portability is an important consideration. Life and reliability requirements can now also be met by dc motors because of the quality emphasis on commutator design. The major problems overcome in achieving these advances were those of maintaining a consistent characteristic of commutator resistance with long life.
