CHAIN ORIENTATION IN NEW POLYACETYLENE STUDIED BY ELECTRON-SPIN-RESONANCE

摘要
The electrical conductivity in polyacetylene increases with the degree of orientation, for example by stretching. In the present paper it will be tried to correlate the degree of stretching with a molecular property of the polyacetylene chain in the magnetic field expressed by the linewidth of the ESR signal. The obtained results are: from the angle dependence of the ESR linewidth of stretched polyacetylene a degree of orientation can be determined; the orientation is preserved during isomerization; the single ESR spectrum is a superposition of a large number of hyperfine structure lines.
