摘要
THIS STUDY INVESTIGATED THE EFFECT OF EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT INSTRUCTION OF COMPLEX SENTENCE STRUCTURES ON THE WRITING PERFORMANCE OF THE LEARNERS.. IT HAS TRIED TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE EFFECT OF THE DEGREE OF EXPLICITNESS ON THE EMPLOYMENT OF COMPLEX STRUCTURES IN THE WRITINGS OF LEARNERS. IN OTHER WORDS, IT AIMED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION AS WHETHER EXPLICIT OR IMPLICIT TEACHING OF COMPLEX PATTERNS OF SENTENCES COULD BE LEADING TO A MORE EFFICIENT USE OF THESE PATTERNS IN WRITINGS. TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION, AT FIRST TWO HOMOGENEOUS GROUPS WERE FORMED USING AN INTERMEDIATE NELSON TEST. THEN THE SUBJECTS IN THESE TWO GROUPS FOLLOWED TWO DIFFERENT TREATMENTS. IN ONE GROUP THE EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION OF COMPLEX SENTENCE PATTERNS WAS IMPLEMENTED, AND IN THE OTHER ONE THE IMPLICIT FORM OF SUCH INSTRUCTION WAS PURSUED. AFTER THE TREATMENT, THE PARTICIPANTS WERE REQUESTED TO WRITE PASSAGES TO SEE THE EFFECT OF INSTRUCTION ON THEIR EMPLOYMENT OF COMPLEX STRUCTURES. THE DATA OF THIS STUDY WERE ANALYZED USING AN INDEPENDENT SAMPLE T-TEST. THE RESULTS WERE EXPRESSIVE OF EFFECTIVENESS OF EXPLICIT METHOD AT MORE ADVANCED LEVEL WRITING. THE IMPLICATION OF THIS STUDY FOR THE TEACHERS CAN BE THAT THE MORE CONSCIOUS ATTENTION OF LEARNERS MUST BE GIVEN ON THE SENTENCE STRUCTURES AT MORE ADVANCED LEVELS.
