The aim of the present work is to throw some light on the structure of glasses and possibly on the glass structure. Different glass systems were produced according to the molecular formula 75 mol% SiO//2-(25-Y)Na//2O-YNaX)1. 5g V//2O//2 (where Y equals 0, 2. 5, 5, 7. 5, 10, 12. 5, 15, 17. 5, 20, 22. 5 and 25). It is concluded that the structure of these glasses is a composite interpenetrating structure with the VO//6 group as the fundamental unit responsible for conduction. The increase in the intensity of the absorption bands with the increase of sodium halide content may be attributed to the increase in the V**4** plus /V**5** plus ratio.
