Stenosis in anastomosis after partial gastrectomy as an untypical cause of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease case report

Background. One of the reasons of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease is delayed gastric emptying. In the following article the authors describe a case of the disease as a consequence of a stenosis in anastomosis after gastric resection. Case report. 75-year-old man, 28 years after gastrectomy, was admitted to the hospital because of chest pain. After excluding possible cardiac disorders as cause for the symptoms, a gastroscopy was performed which showed stenosis in anastomosis and delayed gastric emptying. Anti-reflux treatment resulted in remission of the symptoms. Discussion. Gastrectomy can be connected with higher risk for gastro-oesophageal reflux, dysplasia and oesophageal carcinoma. In this case, a long term between the operation and the complication is noticeable. Conclusions. Patients after gastrectomy should be under observation in case of possible complications even for many years after operation.
