MODIFICATION OF POLYORGANOSILOXANE BINDERS WITH ETHYL SILICATE

Results are presented from an investigation of the modification of polyorganylsiloxanes (filled or unfilled materials) with tetraethoxysilane and products of its pyrolysis. On the basis of results obtained by IR spectroscopy and differential thermal analysis, it is concluded that combined mechanical activation of solutions of polymethylphenylsiloxane (PMPS) and ethyl silicate leads to cross-linking of the macrochains of the PMPS by the silicon-oxygen fragments at the expense of silanol groups and possibly hydrocarbon radicals of the polymer.
