摘要
Introduction: Anxiety is one of the body's natural response to harmful stimuli. One of the things that can lead to anxiety and anxiety symptoms is surgery. Many patients become anxious under surgery conditions. Clonidine is used to reduce blood pressure and melatonin is used to soothe and induce sleep. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effects of melatonin and clonidine in reducing anxiety before, during, and after elective cesarean section using spinal anesthesia in Shahid Motahari Hospital of Jahrom city. Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 60 patients undergoing cesarean section admitted to women department of Shahid Motahari Hospital. Samples were divided into 3 groups (each containing 20 patients). Clonidine was prescribed for the first group, and melatonin was prescribed for the second group, and third group received placebo. Then, their anxiety was assessed using Zhang questionnaire and their vital signs were assessed at three stages: before, during, and after surgery. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by SPSS-21 software. Results: anxiety in clonidine and melatonin groups was lower than that in placebo group. Clonidine and melatonin were significantly different in reducing respiratory rate and clonidine had higher impact in this regard. Conclusion: Clonidine and melatonin have positive effect on reducing anxiety caused by surgery and if taken at the same time, the achievement will be higher.
