摘要：
The present paper aims at introducing, to the Brazilian public, a formalism know as shape grammar, presenting its origins and types. References for the study of shape grammars are suggested. Some examples of applications in analysis and synthesis in the field of architecture are presented. Next, a few recent cases of the use of shape grammars as an analytical methodology in academic researches in Brazil are described. Finally, shape grammar's advantages and disadvantages in this type of study are discussed.
