摘要：

This paper aims to discuss the meanings of adolescent pregnancy and motherhood. Eight interviews were conducted with pregnant adolescents aged 15 to 17 years who were in the third trimester of pregnancy. The interviews (addressing various questions about pregnancy, motherhood and life plans of adolescents) were subjected to thematic content analysis. Reports revealed that motherhood can be desired, because it gives adolescent girls the possibility to have their own family and feel socially valued. On the other hand, teenage pregnancy is a singular phenomenon, since it is caused by many different factors. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of considering contextual and historical issues in order to avoid simplistic and reductionist interpretations of the phenomenon.
