摘要：
Forced or compulsory labour has existed, most probably, all throughout History. Although forced labour was considered a legal practice for centuries, nowadays numerous international legal instruments include an express ban on forced labour. However, today, forced labour constitutes an alarming reality. In order to combat this phenomenon, first of all, it is essential to understand its meaning and its main characteristics. On the basis of these premises, this article aims to analyse the conceptual scope of forced or compulsory labour in the light of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.
