THE LOWEST 3D64S4F SUBCONFIGURATION OF FE-I DETERMINED FROM LABORATORY AND SOLAR FOURIER-TRANSFORM SPECTRA IN THE INFRARED

摘要：

The subconfiguration 3d64s(6D)4f of Fe I has been established by means of 360 combinations with 3d64s(6D)4d, observed in infrared Fourier transform spectra (1.4-2.1μm) of a hollow-cathode lamp. The level structure of the 4f configuration is best described in JK coupling, which is illustrated by the application of the quadrupolic approximation. Nearly all of the newly identified infrared lines that are not obscured by telluric absorption appear in the Fraunhofer spectrum of the Sun. A comparison between the laboratory intensity and the solar absorption depth of the 4d-4f lines yields a sensitive test of the line identifications.
